Horrible Bosses

Movie chain Pathé has a weekly tradition every tuesday night called the sneak preview. They do a screening of a movie that hasn't come out yet for half the price of a regular movie ticket. Any movie. This can be to generate some buzz for a movie that the theater expects to be succesful, or a  movie that hasn't found distribution yet to generate enough buzz to warrant an opening at all.

Breaking Bad Season 4

Second to being a movie geek, I am also a big TV addict. And when summer kicks in, most of my favourite shows end, and in kicks a long period of boredom. Trying to survive the barren wasteland that is TV during the summer, I coast on shows such as Breaking Bad to ease my addiction to television shows. There is no more Community, or 30 Rock, or Boardwalk Empire, but at least we still have Louie, Futurama and Breaking Bad.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

And then it ended. When the credits rolled I did not realise it. But then it slowly started to dawn on me. Harry potter, the greatest cultural phenomenon of our generation, is now officially over. For me, at least. Everyone who hasn't seen the movie yet still awaits an awe-inspiring finale, in three dimensions even. It's hard to imagine the sheer magnitude that the series has been. 8 movies that all feature a place in the top 25 most succesfull movies. 7 books that have only been outsold by The Holy Bible. Theme parks. Billions of toys, games, candy, action figures, playing cards, all devoured by an army of fans big enough to occupy a continent or two. This thing was bigger than Star Wars, Batman and Lord of the Rings put into a blender. And they couldn't have ended it in a better way if they tried.

Bridesmaids

So after the article I wrote on Beyonce, I was scared I turned into somewhat of a cynical misogynist. When I would talk to female friends about the issues I had with her songs they either shrugged and looked at me as if I was an idiot or they reacted furiously, claiming I  was not getting the vision of 'Bey' as they called her. Male friends reacted disinterested, saying something about Beyonce being really hot, and that was about it. A few people I spoke with did agree with me, but they thought that maybe I overthought this one. All in all, I was scared of turning into a bit of chauvinist of a person.

Attack the Block

Recently I've had the good fortune to witness a movie that feels like the spiritual sequel to movies like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Yes, it was that good. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are only present as producers, Nick frost also being a minor character in the movie, but somehow their presence can be clearly felt. You see, these guys are experts in bringing a genre that is decidedly American, and giving it their own British twist, delivering movies that not only work as genius spoofs, but also as great genre movies. With Shaun of the Dead they brought the zombie flick to London, Hot Fuzz delivered a blockbuster action comedy with English antics, and now Joe Cornish has taken the reigns and did an alien invasion flick set in the slums of London.

Cars 2 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon

So 2 movies about vehicles came out recently, and they were both awful. One was from Michael Bay, so no one was really surprised. One was from the brilliant animation studio Pixar, so the people got sad. An end of an era. The winning streak was over, because the most respected moviemakers in the world decided to churn out a cash grab. What surprised me however, were the similarities between these two movies.

Apparently girls run the world now

So this is one of those things that has been on my mind for a long time now and it has pissed me off beyond belief. It's this new song from Beyonce called Run the World (Girls). For those who are unfamiliar with it, this is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmMU_iwe6U

another day another new blog

So I have decided join the bloated behemoth that is online blogging. Being both frustrated with the stupidity that is today's entertainment and unemployed enough to bitch about it (well, college, but I have plenty of time on my hands), I will be using this medium as a great outlet to vent my thoughts. expect my articles to be about movies, music, politics, games and whatever the hell is on my mind.
